SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENTS

ABC Auto Parts Annual Scholarship Program - is available to individuals actively involved in a Vocational program or those who would like to pursue a career in the Automotive Aftermarket industry.  Deadline March 31, 2007   See. Mrs. Anderson for an application.  

Barksdale Officers’ Spouses Club Scholarship - Applications are available for graduating high school seniors that are military dependents and are planning to continue their education at a college, university or vocational college. Postmark deadline to apply is March 16, 2007.  Website www.geocities.com/bosc_scholarships.com .

Campus Door Scholarship - Campus Door will award $100,000 in scholarships.  To apply, simply visit www.campusdoor.com/scholarship . 

Carol Meyer Memorial Scholarship Award - The Louisiana Association of Teachers of Mathematics will award a $500.00 scholarship in memory of an outstanding mathematics teacher and fervent worker on their Board, Carol Meyer.  The award is made to a high school senior who has expressed an interest in pursuing a career in mathematics or mathematics education.  

Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Jesse Brown Memorial Youth Scholarship Program recognizes outstanding young volunteers.  You may access the web site at: www.dav.org/volunteers/jesse_brown_scholarship.html.   

Harvard University announced this past spring that from now on undergraduate students from low-income families will pay no tuition.  To find more about Harvard offering free tuition for families making less than $60,000 a year, visit Harvard’s financial aid website at: www.news.harvard.edu/gazette/daily  or call the school’s financial aid office at (617) 495-1581. 

Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier Inc. Scholarship - Students must be a community volunteer, graduating senior and have a 3.0 GPA or higher.   Applications are available in the counselor’s office.   Deadline is April 16, 2007.  See Mrs. Anderson 

Louisiana Pest Management Association - Life Sciences Scholarship-$1000.00

Criteria:  3.5  GPA or higher

              ACT score of 23 or higher

Louisiana Sheriffs’ Scholarship Program - Applications are available in the counselor’s office.  The deadline is March 23, 2007.  See Mrs. Anderson. 

Oil City Rotary Club Scholarship Program - Applications are available in the counselors’s office.  The deadline is April 13, 2007.  See Mrs. Anderson. 

Nashville Auto-Diesel College is offering a new scholarship program for a high school senior at Northwood with strong technical aptitude who wants to pursue a career in the auto-diesel or collision repair and refinishing field. Interested students need to see Mrs. Anderson. 

Northwestern State University President’s Leadership Program for Freshmen - Applications for participation are available in the counselor’s office.  See Mrs. Anderson. 

SAMMY 2007 Award Program - recognizes outstanding scholar athletes in grade 12 from high schools throughout the US.  Visit www.bodybymilk.com 

Texas State Technical College Marshall - Scholarship Applications are available in counselor’s office.

Call Me Mister Program - Historically Black colleges are looking for future black male teachers and will send them to college for 4 years free.  Website: www.callmemister.clemson.edu .

Camelot College of Baton Rouge, LA - is presently providing short-term job specific training in the following areas: Medical Assistant, Computer Data Processing, Cosmetology and Paralegal.

Louisiana State University - Baton Rouge - The 2007 LSU Spring Invitational Program is March 28, 29, & 30.  Invitations will be mailed to eligible students the 3rd week of January.  Invitation Eligibility: 1.  ACT score of 28 or greater aor SAT score of 1240 or greater AND

Louisiana State University - Baton Rouge, College of Engineering and the Center for BioModular Systems will host the Recruitment into Engineering of High Ability Minority Students(REHAMS) Summer Program from June 2 - June 30, 2007.  This is an intense academic program.  Interested juniors may see Mrs. Anderson. 

McNeese will host a University Preview day call "Cowboy Q & A Day" on Saturday, March 10, 2007 in the Student Union Annex (Next to the University Bookstore). 

Mississippi College of Veterinary Medicine will host it’s open house on April 13th and April 14th from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

NCAA Initial - Eligibility Clearinghouse is an organization that works with high schools to determine a student’s eligibility for athletic participation in his or her first year of college enrollment.  NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) evaluates the academic credentials for high school student-athletes interested in participating in athletics at an NCAA Division I or II member institution. Students who wish to participate in college sports during their first year of enrollment in college must register with the clearinghouse. Student may apply at: www.ncaaclearinghouse.net.
