Services provided to students by the Counseling Department include
academic, career, personal, substance abuse and social adjustment
counseling. Counselors also deal with school and peer relationships,
orientation for new students, assistance with course selection, scholarship and
financial assistance, test-taking skills, and information on post-secondary
training programs, such as colleges, technical training programs, and military
opportunities.
The Counseling Department is located in room 216, across the hall from the
Attendance office. The counseling staff can be reached at 929-3513 or 929-9217.
ASVAB
PSAT
The preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test is offered each October for a small fee. Juniors may use
this score for National Merit Competition.
ACT
The American College Test is offered five times a year. Students planning to enter a Louisiana state
college or university are required to take the ACT for admission. Students are advised to take the
test in April or June of their Junior year.
SAT
The Scholastic Aptitude Test is required of students making application to select colleges outside
Louisiana.Test should be taken by May or June of their junior year.
PLAN
In order for a student to graduate from a Louisiana public high school they must pass all five
components of the Louisiana Educational Assessment Program in addition to completing the 23
Carnegie units of study. Various components are given to different grade levels each spring.
Students not attaining the minimum score on any section are provided extra study  and re-testing
opportunities the following October.
Appointments with Counselors
In order for Counselors to assist students most effectively with their unique situations,
appointments are scheduled by completing request forms which are available from teachers or on
the door of the Counseling center in room 216.


Some Areas dealt with in this department...
The Armed Service Aptitude Battery  is a voluntary test which is given to 11th graders free of
charge. The purpose is to identify vocational aptitude and interest.
The Plan is designed to encourage and enable 10th grade students to make productive plans for the
future based on their academic strengths, the test is given in late October or early November for a
small fee.
LEAP
